My maternal grandparents named their home in Virginia. If I recall correctly, it was nestled on about 6 acres. They named it Blackberry Hill. We loved our visits there, the goats, the garden, the creek at the back of the property, the forts, chopping wood, the large yard to play, golf, croquet, kickball, hide and seek, king of the hill, ain't no bears out tonight, and anything we could think of.
When she moved to Birmingham after her mission following the death of my grandfather, she bought an old stone cottage that she lovingly named Blackberry Patch, a more intimate home on about an acre, with beautiful pecan trees, hydrangeas, and a patch of blackberry bushes and various plants she planted.
So I've been trying to think of what I might name my home. I have put alot of thought into it, with only little progress. But last weekend I brought up the topic in the car when the whole family was together. I told them my latest name idea. Mass chaos of words ensued. Everyone had an opinion.
It went a little something like this ..."Riddle, that doesn't make any sense...How about llama cottage..no that sounds like a lodge with animal heads hanging on the wall...what about Love Shack...are you kidding we can't name it Love shack...what? and we can name it Llama cottage..."
So, I thought, "why not put it on the blog and let everyone vote, right?"
Some may require explanation...see notes
Cliff: Llama Cottage (a few years ago we adopted the llama as our family mascot, I don't know why, but it stuck so...it is what it is)
Charity: Riddletree Place or Orchard House (Riddletree because Cliff loves to tell riddles, and I love trees, and Orchard because I just love the name, but may deceiving since we have no fruit trees )
Alex: Starlight Nest (Alex has a long explanation about stars glowing from the inside out and that they never die but just turn into black holes, or something else, and how we shine from the inside out, and nest because we are growing our kids here.) *personally I love the concept, but it sounds a bit like a "ranch" in Nevada to me.
Samantha: The Love Shack haha uh...I hope not
CJ: Lollipop Mansion (Samantha said this is what he would say if he could think of it himself)
So I am going to put a poll on the sidebar. Please vote for your favorite, and leave a comment, especially if you have another idea, I would love to hear your opinion.
What do ya'll think? Have any of you named your home?

I voted for Orchard, but I think you need to plant some fruit trees if that's what you end up choosing ;) I love the vision of blossoms and orchards. We always named our houses and cars when i was a kid....hadn't thought about it in years. Fun to see you at the library, sorry we didn't get to chat.
I love this idea! Oh my goodness, I may have to copy! I'm going to vote now.
OK, the story of your grandmother and Blackberry 'Patch'... DARLING!!
I love the word orchard too. And think of the food storage possibilities if you did plant a few fruit trees, snicker.
We have tossed around formal names for out house/property. Nothing has stuck. The Farm... thats as hightech as we have gotten. Maybe a formal name will stick when we open the B&B, although 'Once Upon a Farm' is the fave of the kids. Funny. That was just something I typed haphazardly when creating the blog ;)
Although the Love Shack may be my favorite...how about Hamster Haven?
SO kidding!
I vote for a hybrid of Charity-style and history...how about Orchard Patch?
Then you wouldn't feel pressure to have a FULL orchard...just a tree or two would do. Just a patch is all you need to make it legit. :)
Fun idea, friend! Can't wait to see what you decide on.
I love naming houses! I voted for the llama one, it just has so much personality! The Love Shack is good though...
I think this is a brilliant idea.
10 acres, just FYI. I'm excited to hear the results! Still weighing my vote.
