Surprisingly Sew

Even since we started doing our Saturday chores at 5 am, I have enjoyed my Saturdays so much more, although I am ready to hit the hay around 9 pm.  This weekend I sat in my newly recovered sewing chair...

I also worked on a prom dress for Alex.  We told her we would pay for half of any dress she chose.  She picked out this lovely...for about $300...ok....its modest and quite beautiful...

...and she saved half.  But before prying her hard earned money from her hands purchasing this lovely, she made a stop at Asbury Thrift store.  She decided she wanted to test my skills.  She bought a dress for $10, simple, elegant, a size too big, too long, and immodest...

She wants me to make it modest, hem it, take it in, and add some detail with embroidery and beading.  I accepted the challenge. I hope I don't regret it, but so far, it has been hemmed and taken in.  We'll see how it goes.  If it doesn't go well, we've only spent about $25 and my time, and we'll buy the other dress, but if all goes well, we've only spent $25.  I'm crossing my fingers and will keep you posted.

We've also been doing some floor surfing.   It's CJ's latest favorite thing.

Ha ha ...not so much!  I love the look on his face.

And ... we are still in hamster negotiations.

LOVE IT. All of it. I am excited to see how the dress turns out and I'm sure you can do it! Maybe it would be easier if I came up one weekend to take the kids off your hands? The look on CJ's face is pretty priceless. And adorable, might I add.

I agree! I'm glad you are blogging more. You have always been so creative. I can't wait to see how the dress turns out. I know who I'm coming to when it's prom time around here!

I have no doubt that Alex's dress will be fantastic. As far as the hamster goes I have more stories. Like the time they escaped. We couldn't find for 3 days. Then one night, of course the middle of the night, we heard them. Sounded like mice. A lot of mice. But we had to jump out of bed and capture them. Ugh. It was creepy. Then there is the smell. I tell you what I have stories. I will never get a hamster. Ever.

Savannah found and loved that SAME dark blue dress online when she was looking for formals. Proves modest is gorgeous!!! The dress she found is a beautiful color too... I bet you two create something amazing! So fun!

Your chair is yummy!
Can't wait to see the dress. You are a sewing rockstar.
And did you not read my previous comment? Are you ignoring Karen completely? Do. Not. Get. A. Hamster.
Or a dog, cat, bird, fish, gerbil, rock, or chia pet.

But if you do. I'll understand. I'll support. I have two pain in the bunkus dogs...I got all sorts of empathy.

Floor surfing was not so successful for CJ at our house unfortunately!!
:(!!! I totally know you can pull off that prom dress, and I think you need to cover my retro flower chair now that I see your awesome skills ;).
