After this reminder, Sam responded as if I had suggested the most ridiculous thing. "You're kidding, right? No boy is even thinking about liking me." I just felt like I needed to say it.
So guess what happened? The. Next. Day. a boy in her class asked her to be his girlfriend. The next day! She told him no, without further explanation, although she admitted to me that he was nice and sweet and wished she could say yes.
Yesterday, this boy brought her, and only her, a box of chocolates (large according to her) and some gummy bears, which are her favorite. She was unaware that he still liked her, apparently. So what did she do?
She declined the chocolates, but accepted the gummy bears! Ha ha! The girl knows what she likes! She said that taking both might give him the wrong impression. She's our little heartbreaker!
As for Alex, she always seems to do just fine on Valentines Day and yesterday was no exception. Alex came home from school beaming! She relayed the story of her day...each of her friends giving her one small box, with a chocolate inside and on the bottom was written one thing that this special boy loves about her. I forgot to count how many total but it was about 24.

Cute idea, right? He even included "your family" as one of the things he loved about her. He also gave her a bouquet of flowers.

Alex said, "I finally got flowers from a boy that wasn't my Dad!" She was so happy. As if that weren't enough, he stopped by earlier in the day to put this on the ceiling in her room...

In glow-in-the-dark paint it says, "I made a wish and you came true". Awwww! Right?
You might be wondering who this boy is? Like Brangelina, together we like to call them Alham, or Brigex but haven't decided which nickname we like better. Ha ha
As for me, I had a great Valentines Day too. I can always count on flowers because he knows I love to have fresh flowers, and I like to be the one to arrange them, so he doesn't have them delivered anymore. You may remember these from yesterday's post.

He knows I like time away from the kids every now and then, too so I can always count on dinner out, as well as a heartfelt message written in a thoughtfully chosen card. And I love him, even though he can't remember the name of my favorite flower, doesn't know the first thing I would buy with a billion dollars, or that I don't have a favorite movie.
What he does remember is that he loves me, and that is all that really matters!

P.S. Thanks for all of the comments...I love knowing that my friends are reading what I write. I especially want to say thanks for the kind words after my yucky week! I really appreciate knowing I am not alone. :)

Awwwww, sounds like all the Stratton gals got spoiled. Loved it!!
Good heavens! Alex's guy wins boyfriend of the year! Totally cute! And Samantha, it's so hard to keep the boys away my dear, when one is as cute as you. I would have chosen the gummies too.
Loved it all!
And I have the other half of Brigex in my SS class. Just might have to ask him where my little boxes are...
:)
I love those last lines about Cliff not knowing what you'd do with a billion dollars and your fave flower! I get it! Also- i LOVE Samantha's confidence- can Noelle come over to your house for her to teach her some?
All those romantic attentions. I am getting very nervous for my future. I am watching and learning, I tell you.
Looks like there was a lot of love around Orchard House!
